Today, I am going to announce some big plans for Qualdrin! The Student Game Showcase of GameFest 2014 will be April 25. I submitted Qualdrin and I am hopeful that it will be displayed along with some other great games. To prepare, I am addressing a concern that came up during my latest playtests: Adding more fun. Fun is very tricky, especially in this game because many players continually request power-ups and more abilities to add more fun. I am reluctant to make those kinds of changes and I will try explain my reasons in a future Deep Reflection post. But I am confident these new plans will help satisfy my players. First things first... Good bye E-ShipIf you remember my previous blog posts about the E-Ship, I was attempting to find a function for it. Sadly, I kept drawing blanks. I foolishly clung to my design and allowed it to hold me back. But no more. Away with you! Meet the M-ShipNow check out this sweet ride. This brand new design was the source of inspiration I needed to break free of my past failure and move towards a shining new future. "... But you just turned it."That's right! I, the noble captain of this ship, turned our vessel out of the storm and into the calm sea. No dark clouds ahead. Only the shining new future! "But that still-"Shining. New. Future. Function of the Majestic M-ShipBelow you can read the function of the the M-Ship step-by-step. Other Notes on the M-ShipThe M-Ship will serve as a miniboss that appears during the middle of each level. The numbers on the circles, how many circles there are, and how the circles will be arranged leave this miniboss open to a wealth of different strategic experiences. Of course, that's the plan. All the programming and math involved makes this very challenging. We'll see how close to reality I can bring this idea to life. Final RemarksRegardless of the M-Ship getting into the game, there will be an updated gameplay video in the future. The current one doesn't reflect some of the big changes that have been made sense it was made.
I'm also interested in doing a color blind mode. The game is still playable if you're color blind or not but it couldn't hurt to see how I can make it easier on the eyes. Screenshots of Qualdrin workspace: Normal, Deuteranopia (insensitivity to green light), Protanopia (insensitivity to red light), Tritanopia (insensitivity to blue light) Thanks for taking the time to read. I hope you got something out of it. But most of all, I hope you will enjoy Qualdrin as is continues to develop into a more robust game. Comments are closed.
